Gap in implementation of Guidance & Counseling programme in India

Guidance and education are related to each other integrally, then it can be said that major lapses in implementation in process of the education system of India. The standard guidance and counseling programmes yet to implement properly in Indian education system. The aspect of counseling and guidance is much broader than what practically exists.
In the current scenario, the meaning of guidance and counseling differ as per level of Institutions. At school prospects, school counselor’s services limited to behavioral guidance. Very few schools promote their counselors to work for multidimensional development for students. While at the higher education college level, the counselors, whether they are academic or psychological, treated as admission counselor or consultant. Such things occur just because of interest of management in revenue increment rather than the increment of quality education. That’s the reason, schools and colleges more focusing on the increase in the number of admissions and fees.
As per standard guideline, guidance and counseling programme should fulfill the following needs:
•    Educational Guidance Needs
•    Vocational Guidance Needs
•    Personal, Social and Emotional Guidance Needs
Moreover, mostly institutions focusing on personal, social and emotional guidance to some extent, so that student will proceed to the next level in the same school. Many school students consult other than school counselors for their educational and vocational assistance, it is obvious because such assistance not provided in the organizations. Even, a major concern is every institution is not having regular counselors.
One of the major concerns of the gap is the lack of skilled professional counselors. Many professionals not possess the required characteristics of counselors and don’t have knowledge about its applications. The bigger reason for such lapses in the absence of the regulatory body in our education system. Now, some extent government made a step forward to overcome such lapses but lots of work needs to do. Still, all schools not benefitted with trained and skilled counselors whether it is for government schools because their system is very slow or in private schools because they have the least priorities in this regards.
We always proud that our fundamentals are very strong and doing quite good across the globe, that’s true. But it is also true that we are ignoring and giving least priorities to the multi-dimensional development of students. This is the reason we are producing the least skilled professionals.
So, it is required that our system should promote guidance and counseling services as per standard and give the same priority as academics and fundamental development of students is give
