TEACHER EMPOWERMENT

TEACHER EMPOWERMENT
Kabir in his famous DOHA expressed the view that it is the respect and obedience towards one’s GURU leads one to GOD.
We the teachers should remember that teaching is a divine job –partnership with God. For a teacher  a school is his temple, the students its deities and teaching his relentless offering. Whilst indulging in this act of reforming society the teacher realizes that this is the only vocation that has the power to transform. A teacher should be an instrument of inspiration and should heal.
A truly empowered teacher with role as mentor can channelize the resource in a child and make him the owner of a sound mind and body.
A good teacher becomes a master teacher when they accept that it is okay to make a mistake, reflect over what happened and make the change to improve for the next time.
According to Edward Bulwar Lytton “ The best teacher is the one who suggests rather that dogmatizes, and inspires his listener with the wish to teach himself.”
Teacher are no more knowledge providers since variety of books, internet, newspapers, television etc, are more easily accessible and available for the learner. Intellectual obesity that is a result of role learning is no longer a mark of intelligence.
Instead, the teacher has to become a facilitator by helping  the student to know how to absorb and use the right type and amount of knowledge.
1. Have faith in their ability to influence student’s learning and overall growth
2. Exercise academic freedom and power over instructional processes that decide what to teach, how to teach, what to test and how to test etc.
3. Develop a realistic sense of self – work and actively participate in routine and non – routine school matters.
4. Commitment to lifelong learning.
Have good citizen skills and a global outlook
5. Act as a mentor to students and colleagues.
6. Engage in cooperative activities that promote better congeniality and be a team builder.
